On Thomas Sunday, April 19, after the Divine Liturgy, an Easter concert took place featuring the children of the parish in honor of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. The rector of the parish, Archpriest Maksim Abroskin, addressed those present with opening remarks and a special greeting to the participants of the event.<\/p>\n
After the children\u2019s performance, the concert continued with the ensemble \u201cKalina,\u201d which performed Russian folk songs accompanied by the bayan. The audience listened with great pleasure, singing along and enthusiastically clapping to the rhythm of the music.<\/p>\n
After the concert, everyone was offered Easter treats prepared by the Sisterhood of the Smolensk Church.<\/p>\n
The concert also had a missionary purpose \u2014 to introduce the Canadian audience \u2014 and many of the residents of the Retirement Home are indeed Canadians \u2014 to the Orthodox Paschal tradition, as well as to Russian folk culture and music. The residents were able to attend the concert and, judging by their reactions, were very pleased.<\/p>\n
